Ok, it's our 50th Independence Day..but seriously..I don't feel the spirit at all. For the past so many months before today, the country had done lots of effort putting in the excitement, the appreciativeness for our country into ourselves....but sadly to say, I don't feel it. This is, indeed, a disappointment.
Not that I 'm not thankful of being able to be here, alive to witness and feel the "day", I truly am. But the celebration...if you ask me...was totally sucks! Last night on Merdeka eve, I was at a backyard party at my aunt's place which I've mentioned earlier on my previous entry, and a friend of my aunt was sharing the same thought and feeling as I have. She was disappointed with how the celebration of the big day was to some places, here in this country. She didn't see any flags up, tied to the street lights, or even on trees. I had to disagree with her on that because I did see some flags at some places. I changed my mind on that after she told me that when she was in Jakarta, there were flags everywhere upon celebrating their Independence day. Although poor people, who can't afford to spend insufficient money they have on flags to be hanged, but effortly, what they do is they use colorful old, worn-out cloths in exchange of their country flag. See one thing that differs them from us Malaysians in this case is the spirit of patriotism. This energizes their celebrations, their parades although the whole world knows that it is one hell of a full-problematic country.
Ok, my complaints of this is not just about celebrations and how it's supposed to be-no! Celebration is one thing. The spirit of Merdeka within one's self is another thing. And appreciativeness? Hmm... as I am talking to myself about this, I am also asking myself. Do I have the sense of appreciativeness towards Malaysia? After being aware of the sacrifices that our great leaders had done for the country, all the turmoils they've faced and crashed with, I don't think, but I do appreciate! Ok, there's one proud Malaysian. I'm sure there are more, but wouldn't it be better if everyone appreciates as well? Some people believe, to appreciate, one has to feel or encounter it himself, but to me, not everyone has to. If this is the way it is, do you want to be reversed back in time way before 1957 and during the great wars were going on? Do you want to encounter those times just to appreciate what our great leaders at that time had done for the country? Think abt it...and let yourself know. Til then - Happy Merdeka Malaysian readers.
